Renowned traditional musician John Zuya, widely known as John Mai Molo, has passed away after reportedly consuming poisoned food in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Zuya had recently returned from Lagos on October 16, 2025, following performances at various cultural events. He reportedly began to feel unwell and collapsed shortly after eating the suspected meal.

He was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead.

A fellow musician and close friend, Emma Wakili, confirmed his passing in a Facebook post, stating that Zuya died at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

His body has been placed in the hospital's mortuary for an autopsy as investigations into the cause of his death are ongoing.
