Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stated that political affiliations are not the primary consideration for appointments to important positions within the state.
Makinde made this statement during the inauguration of the Oyo State at 50 Anniversary Planning Committee.
The event took place on Wednesday in Ibadan, the state capital.
Members of the committee include former House of Representatives member Hon. Saheed Fijabi (Chairman), former Head of Service in the state Alhaja Ololade Agboola (Deputy Chairman), while Mrs. Ronke Adedayo will act as Secretary.
Other committee members, as mentioned by the governor, are Dr. Z.O. Ajuwon (OON); Mr. Mustapha Rasaq Areo; Alhaja Fatimah Ololade Azeez; Mr. S.A. Adejumo; Pastor John Olasunkanmi Alabi; Alhaji Gafar Bello; Compol Fatai Owoseni (rtd.); and Mr. Samuel Adegboyega Badejo.
According to DAILY POST, Oyo State was established from the former Western State in February 1976 during the military regime of the late Murtala Muhammed.
Our correspondent reported that the state was later divided in 1991 when Osun State was formed.
While inaugurating the 11-member committee on Wednesday, Makinde emphasized that appointments to key positions in the state are not determined by political party membership.
He asserted that these appointments are independent of affiliation with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), or any other political party.
He affirmed that his administration will continue to select individuals who can contribute positively to the state's progress, regardless of their political backgrounds.
Makinde further elaborated that the purpose of the anniversary is to highlight the achievements of the state across various sectors over the past fifty (50) years.
He stated, “From the composition, you will see that there is no PDP or APC. We do not operate that way in Oyo State. Look at the chairman of this committee — we competed in 2019, and we defeated him then, but when it comes to serving the state, we seek out those who can help, whether they are in APC, PDP, or any other party.
*People can belong to any political party. Parties may come and go, but our state will endure. This is the message we always want to convey in Oyo State. We strive to bring in the best talent available. That is what our state represents.
“Additionally, the Deputy Chairman previously served as the Head of Service. However, when you retire and remain capable, what should we do? When we need your expertise, we will reach out to you. I am pleased that you are still active, and we wish you continued strength and many more years of service to our state and nation.”
