The Borno State Police Command has announced a comprehensive security plan ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, including a temporary restriction on the movement of tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command also extended warm greetings to the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
“As part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration, the Police said the movement of tricycles will be restricted from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm on March 20, 2026.
“This directive is aimed at enhancing security coordination, ease crowd management, and prevent any potential security threats,” the statement said.
The statement urged members of the public to comply strictly.
The Command advised worshippers to observe Eid prayers at designated grounds closest to their homes to reduce movement and avoid overcrowding.
To ensure effective coverage, the Police said it has deployed adequate personnel, in collaboration with other security agencies, to Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and other vulnerable locations across the state.
According to the statement, the deployment is intended to handle crowd control, access regulation, traffic management, and general security surveillance throughout the festive period.
The Command further disclosed that operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit have been strategically positioned at major gathering points to carry out thorough screening of persons and items entering designated venues.
This, it said, is “part of proactive measures to prevent any security breaches during the celebrations.”
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, also directed area commanders, divisional police officers, as well as tactical, intelligence, and surveillance teams to intensify visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and sustained patrols.
He also urged officers to maintain professionalism and respect for fundamental human rights while carrying out their duties.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the Eid festivities.
Residents were encouraged to use emergency contact numbers provided by the Police in case of any distress.
