Police issue N37.28m cheques to families of slain officers in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday, presented cheques worth N37.28 million to 33 families of officers who died in the line of duty.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Azare, while presenting the cheque at the command headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, said the cheques were issued on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, as part of the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes.

He said the money was a testament that the sacrifices made by the slain officers were not in vain, expressing hope that the families would use the money judiciously.

The Commissioner thanked the IGP for his generosity to the families and assured that the police would not relent in its welfare scheme for its personnel, especially for all deceased officers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the peace and progress of the country.

His words, “The cheques will help the families tremendously and serve as a reminder that even if their loved ones are no longer with them, the sacrifices they made can never be forgotten.

“We acknowledge the deep sense of concern of the Inspector General of Police, especially, the wellbeing of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.”
