The Nigeria Police Force has announced that no court order has been issued to prevent it from enforcing the tinted glass permit regulation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this statement while addressing reporters on Tuesday, emphasizing that the directive remains in effect until a competent court decides otherwise.

The police representative affirmed that the enforcement of the tinted glass permit order will continue, as there has been no judicial ruling that halts the process.

He noted that criminal elements have exploited previous suspensions of enforcement to commit violent crimes, including kidnappings and armed assaults.

Hundeyin referenced a recent event in Edo State, where a tinted Lexus SUV allegedly failed to stop at a police checkpoint, resulting in a pursuit. The occupants opened fire on the officers, tragically killing a police inspector and injuring others.

The police spokesperson also clarified that the earlier suspension of enforcement, announced by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was misinterpreted by some members of the public and professional organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

“The Inspector-General of Police, out of respect and understanding, temporarily suspended enforcement to allow Nigerians more time to regularize their tinted glass permits.

“This decision was not based on any court order but was a discretionary action to address public concerns,” Hundeyin explained.

Is there a court order preventing the enforcement of tinted glass regulations?
