In a renewed effort to curb banditry and prevent any breakdown of law and order in troubled communities in Bauchi State, the State Police Command has deployed additional security personnel and enhanced weaponry to address the situation.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, Nafiu Habib, explained at a press briefing that the action followed a recent resurgence of security challenges in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri, all located in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
According to Habib, “The deployment was carried out through joint operations involving the police, the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies.”
The spokesman explained that the collaborative efforts of the security agencies are being supported by the Bauchi State Government and are already yielding positive results.
He lamented that in recent days, there has been a resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri, adding that following a thorough security assessment, the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has initiated a massive deployment of joint security personnel to the affected communities with a view to suppressing the activities of the criminal elements.
Habib stated that the affected border communities had long faced security challenges due to the infiltration of criminal elements from neighbouring states but assured residents of Mansur town, who reportedly fled their homes over fears of attacks, that the security situation remained under control.
Despite recent incidents in neighbouring Gwana District, he said Mansur town remains unaffected, and there is no cause for alarm. He confirmed that massive deployments of security personnel and enhanced weaponry have been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order, while operatives are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability in the affected areas.
The Command assured residents of Alkaleri LGA that there would be no haven for bandits in the area, stressing that security operations would be sustained.
Habib said Commissioner of Police Sani Omolori Aliyu emphasised the importance of community cooperation in tackling insecurity, urging residents to promptly provide intelligence to security agencies and report suspicious movements, unfamiliar faces or objects within their communities.
