Twenty-five (25) suspects in connection with the violent attack on the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division, CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi, have been apprehended by the Gombe State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, while confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, explained that the officer was reportedly assaulted by a group of suspected miscreants popularly known as Kalare on Tuesday while carrying out his duties in Kwadon town.
According to Abdullahi, the officer sustained serious injuries, including a deep wound to his forehead, saying that he was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The Gombe State Police Command, according to the statement, strongly condemned the recent violent attack on a serving Divisional Police Officer and informed the general public of the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He explained, “A distress call was received around 9:00 a.m. from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, alerting the Command of the brutal assault on the DPO.”;;
He stated that in swift response to the emergency, a team of patrol officers from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, was deployed to the scene.
The state Command spokesman said that following coordinated tactical operations, 25 suspects, all residents of Kwadon town, were arrested in connection with the incident, adding that they are currently in police custody undergoing a discreet investigation, and upon completion of the investigation, they will be charged in court accordingly.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, visited Kwadon to assess the scene, aimed at assessing the situation firsthand, commiserating with officers on the ground and assuring the community of the Command’s resolve to tackle criminality without compromise.
Abdullahi emphasised the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward violence against police officers, warning that law enforcement will not hesitate to prosecute offenders.
He assured that the police will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law upon anyone found guilty of disrupting public peace or endangering the lives of law enforcement officers.
He urged residents of Kwadon and the wider Gombe State community to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with the police during the ongoing investigation.
He added that the era of attacking security personnel with impunity is over, saying that the Command will ensure justice is served and peace is maintained.
