The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued five minors during an alleged attempt to move them out of the country.

The development was reported in a post shared on X on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, the arrest followed an intelligence tip-off.
A divisional surveillance team intercepted a 45-year-old woman, Rukayya Lawal of Yarogel, at the Central Motor Park in Katsina at about 12:10 pm on February 18.

During the operation, five victims were rescued.
β€œThey were identified as Maryam Jamilu, 20; Abdurazak Salisu, 18; Hauwa U. Murtala, 15; Danjuma Sule, 19; and Faiza Rabe, 14. All of them were said to be from the same address,” Makama wrote.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspect allegedly planned to traffic them from Nigeria to Algeria, where they were expected to work as domestic workers.

The suspect has been taken into police custody, while investigation into the case is ongoing.
