Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have apprehended seven suspected cult members at a hospital situated in Uromi, the administrative center of Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, revealed this information on Thursday in a statement provided to journalists in Benin City.
Yamu stated that the suspects, affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity, were reportedly convening a strategic meeting to plan an attack on the rival Aye Confraternity, following a confrontation between an individual known as “I Dey Chop” (an Eiye member) and Asuelimen Saviour (an Aye member), during which both individuals sustained injuries.
He noted that the suspects were arrested on November 15, 2025, by operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer while acting on reliable intelligence.
Among the items seized from the suspects were a battle axe and various cult-related paraphernalia.
The spokesperson for the Command added that Asuelimen Saviour was apprehended on November 16, 2025, and an investigation is currently underway.
Yamu emphasized that this operation is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes, cult-related activities, kidnapping, and armed robbery throughout the state.
He assured that the Command remains steadfast in its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
