The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended popular TikToker, Habeeb Hamzat, commonly known as Peller, after a video emerged online showing him engaging in reckless driving that led to an accident during a live broadcast.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the arrest was triggered by public outcry regarding the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Police officials stated that the influencer’s actions posed a serious threat to public safety and necessitated immediate intervention to prevent further danger.
“The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended and detained Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘PELLER,’ for further investigation following the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, where he was seen driving recklessly, resulting in a dangerous road crash and significant motor accident while live-streaming the incident, thereby jeopardizing his life and the lives of other road users,” the statement partially read.
The command emphasized that such behavior was extremely irresponsible and could have easily resulted in fatalities, either for the suspect himself or for unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians.
“His actions represent a deliberate attempt to endanger his life and the lives of innocent individuals,” the statement continued.
Authorities further disclosed that the case file has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
“The case is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The findings of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will face charges in a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” it added.
The police also highlighted that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, took this opportunity to warn social media influencers and the general public against misusing digital platforms to promote illegal or dangerous activities.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly advises social media influencers, content creators, and the general public to refrain from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful activities,” it added.
He underscored that actions of this nature would lead to severe legal consequences and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to impartial law enforcement.
“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full extent of the law will be applied to any offender. The Command further urges all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public peace and safety at all times.”
