Dickson Chollom, a Plateau State House of Assembly member who represents the Barkin Ladi area, has said that using the term “unknown gunmen” for recent violent events is no longer correct.

Chollom said the people responsible for those incidents have now been found out, stressing that they know those behind the killings.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport made this statement during a visit to Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where he expressed condolences and gather information after an attack that caused three deaths and left one person with serious injuries.

The people who were killed have been identified as Marvin Choji, 23, Bitrus Choji, 24, and Daniel Dung, 59. Meanwhile, Stephen Davou, 48, is receiving medical treatment for serious injuries.

In a statement released by his Senior Strategic Media and Communication Adviser, George Lambert, Chollom said one suspect has been arrested and has made confessional statements pointing to others involved in the attack.

“We will not use the term ‘unknown gunmen’ anymore. One of the people involved has been caught and he has told where others who helped him in doing this terrible attack are.”

He said the situation shouldn’t be seen as normal, and he highlighted that the people living in Barkin Ladi and Plateau State need clear information and fairness.

Chollom asked security agencies to share the results of their investigations with the public, like the confessions made, the names of the people involved, and where they are being kept, to show citizens that justice is being worked on.

He also asked the Plateau State Commissioner of Justice to take charge of the case and make sure the prosecution is done thoroughly.

“This is not business as usual. The people need to know the truth, and those who are responsible should be held fully accountable by the law,” he added.
