Pit Bull Found Covered in Blood After Brutal Attack on Woman in California, Victim Rushed to Hospital

A VICIOUS pit bull was seen dripping with blood after mauling a woman and leaving her with life-threatening injuries in San Francisco.

Shocking images show the deadly dog covered in blood after the horrific attack as the victim lies on the ground nearby.

Cops arrived at the scene to find the woman severely bleeding with the dog standing over her menacingly.

Witness Ashley Powell, who called 911, told CBS News: “She was walking by. The dog was with the owner and it just jumped and attacked her. Just started pulling her, biting her hands, fingers, chest, face.”

She said the attack last between ten and 15 minutes while brave bystanders tried to pull the dog off its helpless victim.

Ashley added: “I had residents up there saying, ‘Get the dog off of her, get the dog off of her.’

“A lot of people were going up and trying to pepper spray the dog, but it was just still trying to attack the lady.”

Another witness said that the owner of the dog – who was often seen in the area – initially tried to help before fleeing.

Footage later captured by a bystander shows officers struggling to restrain the pit with a snare pole.

When they finally managed to catch the dog, paramedics rushed the victim to hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The pit bull collapsed at the scene and was pronounced dead before animal control arrived.

Animal Care & Control has since taken control of the dog’s remains as they try to determine the reason for the vicious attack.

Investigators are looking into whether an underlying medical condition or foreign substance contributed to the dog’s behaviour and sudden death.

Dr. Thomas Jansen, an emergency veterinarian, told KTVU that certain neurological conditions or toxins can cause to act out dramatically.

He said: “Sometimes in the ER, we see dogs that have altered mentations because of either severe neurologic disease or some kind of a toxin that they got into.

“And indeed, they’re acting in a way that’s completely foreign to their normal behaviour or temperament.”

It comes after a 79-year-old woman was hospitalised with severe and bite wounds after being mauled by four mix breed pit bulls in Florida.

San Francisco is not unfamiliar with these types of attacks.

The most notorious case came in January 2001 when 33-year-old lacrosse coach Diane Whipple was mauled to death by two massive Presa Canarios.

Diane was returning to her flat carrying groceries when the aggressive 100-plus-pound dogs pounced on her in the hallway.

Four years later, 12-year-old Nicholas Faibish was killed by his family’s two pit bulls inside their central San Francisco home.

Nicholas’ mum had left him alone for a few hours to run errands and told him to stay in the basement, knowing that the family’s male pit bull was acting highly aggressive and possessive because the female dog was in heat.

The dog managed to get to the boy, inflicting fatal head and body wounds.
