A PEDESTRIAN has sadly lost their life after being struck by a vehicle in a “serious collision.”
Authorities have detained a man in relation to the tragic incident that occurred in Meltham this afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the scene on Meltham Mills Road shortly after 2 PM.
Despite the prompt response from emergency crews, the pedestrian was unfortunately declared dead at the scene.
Concerned locals reportedly witnessed “an ambulance and five vehicles rushing by” as they hurried to respond to the crash.
Additionally, local social media posts indicated that an air ambulance was seen hovering over the area.
West Yorkshire Police is advising drivers to steer clear of the vicinity while the investigation into the collision is ongoing.
The police confirmed this evening that a man had been arrested following the incident.
They stated: “At 2:01 PM, officers received reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Meltham Mills Road.”
“A man, who was the pedestrian, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
“A man has been arrested in connection with the collision.”
“The road remains closed, and we are advising motorists to avoid the area.”
This follows a separate incident involving a 23-year-old earlier this morning.

The 23-year-old was en route to Gilberdyke, near Howden, when he lost control and crashed into a tree.
Emergency services swiftly transported him to the hospital following the accident at approximately 3:20 AM.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr. Sefton was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
