The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) visited Kebbi State to express their support for the government and families following the successful rescue of 24 students abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga.

The delegation, led by PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, met with Governor Nasir Idris and other state officials at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

The party called for a united effort across communities, irrespective of political, religious, or ethnic affiliations, to tackle insecurity in the state and across the nation.

Turaki emphasized the necessity of unity in addressing kidnappings, stating: “A kidnapper does not inquire about your political party, language, or religion. Criminals view everyone as a potential target. There is no reason we cannot come together as one community to combat this threat.”

He also urged the National Assembly to reevaluate the legal framework governing governors as Chief Security Officers, highlighting that current restrictions impede their capacity to manage security effectively.

According to the PDP, Governor Idris’s prompt action played a significant role in the quick rescue of the students, all of whom were reported to be unharmed. The state government confirmed that the girls have received medical evaluations and have been reunited with their families.

Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida described the visit as a testament to cross-party support, stressing that national interests should take precedence over political differences.

“This visit demonstrates that our national interests outweigh individual or party considerations,” he stated.

The PDP’s visit also included calls for enhanced collaboration between communities and security agencies to avert future attacks and protect children’s education in Kebbi State.
