The Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, has explained the reason behind Governor Ademola Adeleke's postponed defection. He attributed this delay to the conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Alimi shared this information on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief,’ which was monitored by DAILY POST. He mentioned that the governor required the conclusion of the convention before proceeding with his decision.
“He resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on November 4. He had actually joined the Accord Party by November 6, but he postponed the announcement due to the ongoing PDP convention,” he stated.
“He wanted to avoid being perceived as someone who disrupted the event. He left the Peoples Democratic Party because the leadership crisis had intensified,” he added.
DAILY POST recalls that Adeleke joined the Accord Party on Tuesday, weeks after his departure from the PDP, the party through which he was elected as governor, citing the internal crisis as the reason for his resignation from the PDP.
The governor’s resignation has contributed to the growing number of governors and prominent figures who have departed from the PDP. While he did not align himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeleke's defection occurred amidst the ongoing turmoil within the PDP at the national level.
