The ref enjoyed a successful bow after overseeing a series of matches, including ‘s 6-2 victory over .

Although he didn’t miss anything on the board, the official was caught off guard upon his introduction live on stage.

Master of ceremonies Philip Brzezinski decided to immediately attach a nickname to the competition’s newest referee during his walk-on.

And thus Binks was introduced as “Jar Jar Binks”, just like the famous character.

Brzezinski said: “Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome a new referee to the stage.

“It’s Owen “Jar Jar” Binks!”

While the fans seemed to have taken the nickname well, Binks had a different reaction.

The ref appeared surprised as he made his way to his assigned position.

He then took to social media where he demanded a new moniker in what could have been a tongue-in-cheek statement.

Binks tweeted in all caps: “I REQUIRE A NEW NICKNAME.”

Jar Jar was introduced in the Star Wars prequels, starting with the first episode titled The Phantom Menace, as a comic relief character but he wasn’t received well by the fans who found him to be too tacky.
