MANCHESTER UNITED icon Paul Scholes has identified Mark Bosnich as the club's worst signing in a harsh critique.

Scholes, now 51, dedicated his entire 19-year career to United, where he achieved every major honor under Sir Alex Ferguson and witnessed numerous players come and go.

The legendary midfielder reflected on Manchester United's worst signings and defended Juan Sebastian Veron, asserting that he was a “great player” despite many viewing him as a failure.

Instead, the former England international emphasized that Bosnich, now 53, was the most disappointing after rejoining Manchester United in 1999 from Aston Villa, during a time when the club was seeking a replacement for Peter Schmeichel following his departure after a year in the academy.

The 1999 Treble winner described the former Australian international as “so unprofessional” and even claimed he “couldn’t kick a football.”

Scholes stated The Overlap : “Veron was a great player, a talented player. I really don’t understand why it didn’t work out for him, but he was an exceptional footballer.

“When we had to try to replace Peter Schmeichel, it was always going to be a tough task.

“We had a few options. I was thinking of [Massimo] Taibi and Mark Bosnich.

“I thought he was a good goalkeeper at [Aston] Villa, Mark. When he joined us, he was incredibly unprofessional. Honestly, it was absurd.

“In shooting practice, you usually have around 15 to 20 shots. After three shots, he was exhausted, saying, ‘Oh no, get someone else in’.

“I never realized he couldn’t kick a football. I’ve never seen anything like it. We played against Everton away in the first game of the season, and none of us noticed that he couldn’t reach the halfway line.

“It was a perfect day with no wind. But when you looked at his feet, size 14s, he was just kicking the ground all the time, like he had big flippers. Honestly, it was disappointing.”

Bosnich struggled to fill Schmeichel's enormous shoes, managing only 38 appearances before leaving for Chelsea in 2001 after Fabien Barthez's arrival.
