MBC’s upcoming drama “Coach Maeng’s Hater”; (literal translation) has shared a peek inside its first script reading!
“Coach Maeng’s Hater”; is a comedy about professional basketball coach Maeng Gong, who faces the risk of being fired due to his team’s poor performance. To turn things around, he unexpectedly teams up with his own online hater Hwa Jin.
The script reading session was attended by director Hyun Sol Ip, writer Kim Dam, and the cast, including Park Sung Woong, Park Soo Oh, Kim Taek, Oh Joo Seok, Oh Hyun Joong, Kang Hee Goo, Moon Su In, and more.
The session began with warm introductions, but the mood quickly shifted as the actors immersed themselves in their roles. Their passionate performances created a level of intensity that felt as though they were actually on set, heightening expectations for the drama.
Park Sung Woong, who plays Coach Maeng Gong of the Big Pandas basketball team, stole the spotlight with his commanding charisma and skillful performance. Portraying a former star player-turned-coach, he perfectly captured the struggle of facing a third consecutive year without a playoff appearance. Park Sung Woong effortlessly balanced humor and emotion, bringing the character to life and earning admiration from both the cast and crew.
Park Soo Oh, who plays Hwa Jin, the online hater targeting Coach Maeng Gong, impressed with his portrayal of a character full of complex emotions. He skillfully shifted from Hwa Jin’s intense hostility toward Maeng Gong to revealing the vulnerable side of the high school senior as an unexpected alliance forms.
The actors portraying the Big Pandas players also made an impact with their dynamic performances. Kim Taek, Oh Joo Seok, Oh Hyun Joong, Kang Hee Goo, and Moon Su In, who possess both acting talent and basketball skills, made it feel as though real basketball players were on the court.
Veteran actors Bae Hae Sun, Choi Byung Mo, Son Sang Gyu, Kim Ki Doo, and Heo Soon Mi, along with former basketball player-turned-actor Woo Ji Won, added realism to the drama with their strong performances.
“Coach Maeng’s Hater”; will be released in two parts on May 23 and 24.
