Parents whose children and wards attend Admiralty University of Nigeria, (AUN), Delta State, are battling with students accommodations crisis.

The problem may not be unconnected with the increased student population and infrastructural capacity.

Parents have expressed concern over the limited accommodations in the the institution, fearing security challenges in an environment where the institution is sited.

Most concerned are parent outside Delta State whose children attend the University lamenting that it would involve looking for private accommodations in Ibusa or Ogwashi-Uku coupled with additional transport fares.

The Public Relations Officer, Admiralty University of Nigeria, Makut Alfred Mashat, had dropped an announcement, dated September 23, 2025, limiting the hostel accommodation.

“Admiralty University of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public, especially returning students and parents, about the limited hostel accommodation space available for the 2025/2026 academic session.

“Due to increased student population and infrastructural capacity, available spaces in both male and female hostels are limited. As such, the University has resolved that priority for hostel allocation will be given to: Newly admitted students (100 level and direct entry) and final-year students (graduating class)

“Students in 200, 300, and 400 levels (including Law students) are hereby advised to make alternative accommodation arrangements.

“The University regrets any inconvenience this may cause and assures all stakeholders of its continued commitment to student welfare and campus development.

“For further enquiries, kindly contact the Student Affairs Unit.” the institution’s image maker noted.

Meanwhile, an Anambra based parent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, pleaded with the university management to resolve the crisis.

“We are shut out. The open Whatsapp forum of the school has been shut by the admin to prevent parents from expressing their position.

“I am seriously concerned getting accommodation for my daughter outside the school campus. We are afraid of security threats around.

“Again, the fact that there is a polytechnic in Ogwashi-Uku where the students are still battling with accommodations issues will make the problem complex. Greedy landlords will now have a free day for their exploitation”

However, the university management has allayed the fears of the parents that there is a military post within and outside the university, presence of mobile barrack, correctional center and police stations around the university.
