The infamous Spanish festival sees six fighting bulls charging down the streets of Pamplona chasing hordes of thrill-seeking runners.

The notorious festival kicked off yesterday at midday – but this morning’s 8am run was the first bull run.

Lasting just two minutes and 16 seconds, at least five people were caught in the bloody chase through the city’s old town.

An American man suffered a head injury.

A 20-year-old suffered a leg injury and a 34-year-old had injured his ankle.

The other two people who were injured during the rampage were treated at the scene.

It was the first of eight so-called encierros – bull runs – which often see casualties gored and attacked under the horns and trampling hooves of the raging beasts.

Sixteen people have been killed in the annual festival – with the latest death being that of Daniel Jimeno, 27, who was fatally gored in the neck.

It comes as a man – believed to be around 70 years old – collapsed in a bar on the bull-running track last night.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Estafeta Street after reports of a man going into cardiac arrest at 10:30pm.

Estafeta Street forms part of the bull running course.
