Residents of the Oke-Ogun region in Oyo State have requested the All Progressives Congress (APC) to allocate its governorship ticket for the 2027 election to their area, emphasizing the principles of fairness, equity, and inclusiveness.

This appeal was made by the members of Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa, a socio-cultural organization that represents the interests of Oke-Ogun, while discussing their participation in the ongoing APC Renewed Hope Unity Rally in the state.

In a statement released on Thursday in Ibadan, jointly signed by the group’s National Chairman, Mr. Dauda Olaifa, and Secretary, Pastor Favour Adewoyin, they urged the APC leadership in Oyo State to seriously consider selecting its next governorship candidate from Oke-Ogun.

The organization commended the APC for what it termed renewed energy and strategic direction, noting that the party has started early initiatives to strengthen its framework ahead of the 2027 general elections. They stated that the unity rally showcased the party’s readiness and clear sense of purpose.

However, the group clarified that their presence at the APC rally should not be misconstrued as partisan mobilization, emphasizing their status as a non-political entity.

According to the statement, their participation in the rally was a deliberate effort to highlight what they described as the longstanding and legitimate demand for Oke-Ogun to produce a governor in the upcoming election cycle.

“As natives of Oke-Ogun, we believe the time has come to assert our position clearly and confidently: 2027 should be the year Oke-Ogun produces the governor of Oyo State,” the group declared.

They added that their engagements during the unity drive in Kisi, Saki, and Iseyin were part of a broader outreach that spans various political parties, including the APC, PDP, ADC, Accord, and Labour Party.

“We are not aligned with any political party. We are a non-partisan advocacy platform committed solely to the equitable rotation of the governorship to Oke-Ogun in 2027,” the statement emphasized.

While reaffirming their support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambitions, the group appealed to the APC leadership to act in accordance with justice, equity, inclusiveness, and the principle of federal character by zoning the governorship ticket to Oke-Ogun.

They noted that the region boasts several capable and credible candidates, including former deputy governors, a former minister, and other distinguished individuals with the experience and capability to effectively lead Oyo State.

“Whoever ultimately emerges, Oke-Ogun stands united, prepared, and committed to delivering its full electoral support. Rotational leadership has been successful in many states, and Oyo State should also adopt it,” the group stated.

The organization asserted that their demand is based on fairness and constitutional balance, referencing Sections 14(3) and 14(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which emphasize inclusivity, diversity, and equitable representation at all levels of government.

They further contended that Oke-Ogun’s pursuit of the governorship does not detract from its senatorial aspirations, pointing out that there are precedents where other zones have legitimately held both positions.
