Abia State Governor Alex Otti has directed his Senior Special Assistant on Legislative matters to furnish him with documents passed by the previous House of Assemblyconcerning open grazing of cows in the state.
He also said that he is one of those who believe that cows should not be allowed to roam about and destroy crops in peoples farms.
Governor Otti stated this on Wednesday at the Government House, Umuahia, while speaking to journalists during the April edition of his monthly chat.
He noted that if the anti-open grazing law was actually passed into law by the Abia State House of Assembly during the last administration, his government would look into it with a view of implementing it.
“Let’s be sure it was passed. If it was actually passed during the past administration, then we will take it up from there.
“I am an apostle of anti-open grazing. I believe we have gone beyond carrying cows and destroying peoples farms.
Even the species of cows that are modern don’t need to rigmarole all over the place,”; Otti said.
The governor who spoke on his achievements in security, said that gunmen who murdered two Chinese in Abia State last month came from Ebonyi State.
He informed journalists that some suspects were apprehended by security agencies while investigation is going on.
Otti used the occasion to announce that President Bola Tinubu will be in Abia State before May 29.
He further announced that his administration has reduced the N138 billion debt it inherited from the previous administration to N66 billion, attributing the achievement to fiscal discipline.
