The Osun State Police Command has presented cheques of N5.5 million to families of deceased officers and personnel injured in the line of duty as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Gotan, led the presentation ceremony on Friday at the Command Headquarters in Osogbo.

The fund was disbursed to beneficiaries, including officers who sustained injuries during service and families of those who died while serving the nation.

The event formed part of the welfare initiatives of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at supporting personnel and their families during periods of hardship and loss.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gotan stressed the importance of prioritising the welfare of officers, noting that the Force remained committed to their well-being.

β€œThe Nigeria Police Force will continue to ensure that personnel and their loved ones are not left unattended in times of need,” he said.

He described the gesture β€œas a demonstration of compassion, responsibility and dedication to the welfare of officers across the country.”

The Osun police boss also urged officers to remain steadfast and professional in the discharge of their duties, assuring them that their sacrifices would always be recognised and rewarded.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to protecting lives and property, while also maintaining the welfare and morale of its personnel.

Beneficiaries at the event expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the leadership of the Force for what they described as timely intervention.

They noted that the support provided significant relief and encouragement during difficult times.
