The Osun State Government has declared a halt to all further interactions with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
This announcement comes in the wake of a leadership crisis and ongoing disputes within the youth organization.
The decision was made public on Sunday in Osogbo through a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
According to the statement, “The government expressed concern over what it referred to as escalating leadership conflicts and controversies regarding the management of resources allocated to the state NYCN.
“Consequently, the government has mandated a formal review of its prior engagements with the council and established a three-member investigative committee composed of independent nominees.
“The committee has been tasked with investigating the issues surrounding the leadership crisis and reporting its findings to the government.”
Until the investigation is concluded, the state government announced that it would suspend all official interactions with the NYCN at the state level.
The government also revealed that it would adhere to a directive issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to all ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector in late 2025.
The federal government’s directive, according to the statement, followed the revocation of the NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), which resulted in the suspension of engagements with the national leadership.
“The Ministry cited ongoing infighting, factionalization, and confrontations as reasons for this decision,” the statement further noted.
Alimi stated that the actions taken by the Osun State Government align with the federal position, considering that the state chapter is now experiencing similar internal challenges.
He reassured residents that “the government is dedicated to restoring normalcy, transparency, and accountability within the youth sector through the measures already implemented.”
