Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to probe the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another king for Koka Ilas.

DAILY POST gathered that two kings are laying claim to the town.

In a statement by Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday, the ministry was instructed to review the situation and enforce due process in respect of the chieftaincy law and tradition.

“I read of another king appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight.

“I however urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” the governor said.

DAILY POST gathered that the Ataoja of Osogbo land, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, had on Friday installed Dr Omoniyi Yakubu Adebisi as the new Onikoka of Koka-Ogbnse.

The installation however drew condemnation from both the Onikoka of Koka-Ijesa, Oba Amos Operinmade Adejumo, and the Alase of Ilase-Ìjèsà, Oba Jimoh Isiaka.

Oba Adejumo noted that the installation of another king cannot stand while urging the people Koka-Ijesa to be united and law-abiding under his reign.

While reacting, the Alase of Ilase-Ìjèsà, Oba Jimoh Isiaka, also reaffirmed the authenticity of Oba Operinmade as Onikoka of Koka-Ijesa, noting that the Ataoja of Osogbo had in the year 2022 claimed he had no knowledge of the story linking Osogbo to the Koka town as claimed by some of his subjects who petitioned Ilase-Ìjèsà over the territory of the area.

The Alase then made it clear that the Osun State Government has all the documents that confirmed Koka-Ijesa as part of Ilase-Ìjèsà in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
