The Osun State House of Assembly on Monday approved the 2026 Draft Appropriation Bill, valued at N705 billion, for its second reading during a plenary session in Osogbo.

The bill advanced after the House Majority Leader, Adewumi Babajide, presented the policy objectives of the proposed budget.

Adewumi clarified that the increased budget size aims to facilitate infrastructural development and other vital state projects.

“The expansion of the budget is designed to support ongoing infrastructural development and essential projects throughout Osun State,” he stated.

Lawmakers participating in the debate characterized the appropriation bill as a measure to enhance economic and infrastructural growth. They encouraged its swift passage to ensure seamless government operations in the upcoming fiscal year.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, echoed the sentiments expressed by members. He guaranteed that the bill would receive appropriate legislative consideration, stating, “The House will give this bill the attention it warrants in accordance with our rules.”

Egbedun referenced Order 95, subsection 5(b) of the House Standing Orders, announcing that the bill would be sent to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for a thorough review. He instructed the committee to establish a schedule for the budget defence sessions, during which ministries, departments, and agencies of government are expected to present their cases.

“All MDAs must be ready to justify their allocations before the committee,” he remarked.

The Speaker revealed that the budget defence exercise would take place from November 24 to December 4, providing lawmakers with adequate time to evaluate the figures and proposals. He stressed the necessity of adhering strictly to the timetable to ensure timely consideration and approval of the budget before the year concludes.

The session concluded with the bill officially assigned to the House Committee for further legislative processing.
