The opening of OKTOBERFEST in Munich has been postponed due to a bomb threat, which authorities have connected to a deadly fire and explosion in the city.

One individual lost their life in the explosion, with reports of gunfire also emerging. Police believe the suspect may be the same individual responsible for the bomb threat at the beer festival.

Mayor Dieter Reiter announced that the expansive Theresienwiese area would remain closed until at least 5 PM local time.

He stated this morning: “The police will do everything possible to search the entire Wiesn by 5 PM this afternoon to ensure safety.

“If that is not achievable, I will provide an update, and the Wiesn will remain closed for the day.”
