Ogun Speaker harps on creation of state boundary commission to resolve border disputes

Published on June 20, 2025 at 07:53 PM

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has urged the state government to expedite action on the establishment of a state boundary commission to address persistent boundary disputes involving the state and neighbouring states. Elemide made this call during plenary while responding to the submission of Lawal Adekunle, representing Ogun Waterside Constituency, who reported an alleged incursion into some parts of Ode-Omi by officials from the Lagos State Town Development Authority. He said there was an urgent need for government intervention to protect residents from unwarranted attacks and invasion from the neighbouring state.

In a related development, the Assembly has resolved a land dispute following the resolution of issues raised via a petition concerning Leso Community Market in Odeda Local Government by the Camp Area Community Development Committee, accusing one Oluwajuwon Adex Adefaka and other parties of sabotaging the approved market’s take-off.

The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the report of the Committee on Lands and Housing by its Chairman, Damilola Soneye, who thereafter moved for its adoption, seconded by Samsideen Lawal and supported by the entire House.

According to the report, “After reviewing the evidence, the Committee recommended that the Leso Community Market, approved by the Odeda Local Government Council, should continue its operation.”;

The report also established that the disputed land was confirmed to fall under the purview of the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture; hence, it advised all interested parties to seek proper approval and documentation through the ministry to ensure compliance and clarity.
