The Ogun State government has set a goal of generating ₦500 billion in internally generated revenue to support its fiscal plan for 2026.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this announcement on Tuesday during the Treasury Board meeting concerning the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and the 2026 Budget at the Obas Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun emphasized that Ogun, as Nigeria’s industrial center, would leverage its proximity to Lagos and its vast land area of over 16,000 square kilometers to achieve this target.

“This state should aim to generate no less than ₦500 billion annually, and that must be our objective,” the governor stated. “By the time we conclude our term in 2027, Ogun State’s revenue should increase to approximately ₦750 billion. That is what ambition truly entails.”

He instructed the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service to contribute at least ₦250 billion of the total amount, while other revenue-generating agencies, including the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, the Bureau of Lands, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Housing, were urged to enhance their efforts.

Abiodun described each ministry and agency as a crucial part of “a jigsaw that must fit together to create the larger picture,” encouraging them to prepare bold budgets.

He noted that previous administrations had not fully utilized the state’s comparative advantages, asserting that Ogun’s strength lies in providing what Lagos cannot.

Regarding the poor state of Kara near Isheri, the governor reiterated his commitment to urban renewal, stating that the area would be cleared and redeveloped.

“The new Ogun State cannot permit that area to remain in such disarray. You cannot enter the new Ogun State and first encounter an eyesore. There is no better time to act than now,” he remarked.

He also mentioned that an inter-ministerial team, comprising members from the Ministries of Environment, Physical Planning and Urban Development, the Bureau of Lands, and other relevant agencies, has been established to oversee enumeration, compensation, and relocation for the redevelopment initiative.
