The Ogun State Ministry of Environment has ordered the immediate closure of two business premises and a livestock farm for flagrant violation of environmental laws.
The affected establishments are Crystal Palace Hotel at Adigbe, a confectionary and bakery store, Maa’bey Bakery at Laderin, as well as a livestock farm at Soyoye all in Abeokuta.
Acting Chairman of the Ministry’s Taskforce, Tolu Poviwhede, on Thursday, said they were sealed during the enforcement exercise for repeated failure to comply with basic environmental standards, despite earlier notices and warnings.
According to Poviwhede, the inspection carried out by the taskforce uncovered serious lapses, including; poor sanitation practices, noise pollution, improper waste disposal and non-compliance with prescribed environmental safety measures.
“The era of doing business at the expense of the environment is over, we will continue to take decisive action where infractions are found,’’ he added.
Meanwhile, residents of Adigbe and Laderin, commended the enforcement drive, describing it as a timely intervention at addressing environmental public health concerns in their communities.
The acting chairman urged business owners to take responsibility by adhering strictly to environmental regulations, noting that compliance remained the surest way to avoid disruption and penalties.
