In a move to curb illegal mining activities, Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Environment has sealed off Ideru-Soyindo dredging site and mining company, operating in Soyindo/Ajaka Community in Sagamu Local Government Area.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Farouk Akintunde, who doubles as the Chairman, Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, said the dredging site was sealed and issued a stop work order because it’s activities was polluting the Ibu river, which was a source of water to the community.
“Ideru-Soyindo dredging site was sealed off and issued a stop work order, because its activities was capable of putting the health of the people in the community in danger,”;; he said.
Akintunde said the dredging activities at the upstream of Ibu river was disturbing the operation of the Sagamu Water Corporation Scheme located along the downstream of the river.
He further explained that apart from the mining firm engaging in an unauthorised activity, it had caused several environment degradation to the community.
In a related development, PETROCAM gas station at Igbesa was sealed off for violating a stop work order.
The gas station was earlier issued a stop work order for violating the State environmental law.
