The Ogun State government, through its Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, has sealed a filling station and several shops over environmental infractions.

Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA, Farouk Akintunde, disclosed this on Friday during an interactive session with journalists in Abeokuta.

Akintunde, who also serves as the chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, revealed that the sealing followed a petition submitted by the leadership of Magboro Community Development Committee (CDC) in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

According to him, the petition stated that the filling station and other business outlets along Magboro Road were failing to cooperate with the community in desilting their drainage channels.Dpr-1024x767

The OGEPA official noted that every Thursday has been designated in the state for markets and business outlets to observe sanitation, adding that this must be strictly adhered to.

He urged all business and property owners to take responsibility for the drainage channels in front of their premises, ensuring they are desilted and cleared to prevent flooding.

Meanwhile, the enforcement team, led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Poviwhede Tolu, also removed shanties along drainage channels, drainage setbacks, walkways, and under the Magboro bridge.

In their separate reactions, the Treasurer of Magboro Area CDC, Mr. Mojeed Makonjuola, and a community member, Mr. Olawale Ayeni, expressed appreciation to the state government for responding to their petition.
