The horror incident unfolded off the port town of Progreso and was published online on Wednesday.
For one instant, it seems he has pulled him off – but then the beast clamps down harder and engulfs his entire face.
As his friend films the sea beast attack, the tentacled fiend suctions onto the fisherman’s airways.
At one point the sticky eight-armed creature can be seen latching onto the fisherman’s nose, mouth and even eyes – gluing them shut.
His friend continues laughing while filming the man scrambling to free himself from the feisty creature.
After several agonising seconds, the octopus finally loosened its grip.
Bending over the boat, the man rips the mollusc from his face.
But instead of throwing it back into the sea, he flings it to the floor of his vessel.
He had felt as though he was suffocating, the man later told reporters.
It comes just weeks after a fisherman in the Philippines was forced to club a creature in a bizarre mid-sea battle after it started sucking his face.
Angler Jesser Cervantes was fishing off Puerto Princesa Island in Palawan, the Philippines, when he reeled in the feisty sea creature.
