Police rushed to the Hume freeway after the pair were killed
The pair stopped to help an injured kangaroo when they were struck by a car that couldn’t see them in the dark.
The nurses had worked together at Alfred Hospital and described themselves as each other’s “partner in crime”.
They were travelling to Areeza’s birthday celebrations at the time of the deadly accident on the Hume freeway.
Sarala had sent her best friend of 14 years a touching message on social media just hours before the pair died.
It read: “Through all these years, you’ve been my constant, my partner in crime.
“From laughing till our stomachs hurt to comforting each other in tears, we’ve seen it all and we’re still here stronger than ever.”
Both women came over to Australia from Nepal as they quickly became close friends.
Their families are now trying to arrange for their bodies to be sent back to Nepal.
