The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has announced that it has finalized all arrangements for the Local Government Council elections set to take place on November 1, 2025, with ten political parties competing for various positions.
The positions available for contest include chairmanship and councillorship roles across the 25 local government areas.
The NSIEC chairman, Mohammed Jibrin Imam, shared this information during a press briefing in Minna, emphasizing the commission's dedication to conducting an election that upholds integrity and accurately represents the will of the people.
Imam explained that the commission has completed the distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the 25 local government areas to facilitate a smooth electoral process.

He pointed out that, in an effort to ensure peaceful elections, all ten participating parties have signed a peace accord, committing to a free, fair, and credible election process.
He urged political actors to strictly adhere to the peace accord and maintain a level playing field for all participants.
“It is important to mention that the commission monitored the party primaries of all participating political parties as mandated by the Electorate Act. We also engaged with stakeholders in line with our open-door policy and commitment to providing a fair environment,” the chairman asserted.
According to him, the elections will employ a manual accreditation system, and over 5,000 ad hoc staff will be deployed to oversee the elections across all 274 wards in the state.
He also revealed that security measures have been implemented, including restrictions on vehicular movement from 6 AM to 6 PM on election day, except for essential services.
The participating parties include the ruling All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, Zenith Party, Labour Party, All Progressives Party, Alliance Party, and Action Party.
