The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has refuted claims of fatalities during an operation to apprehend illegal miners at the Kateregi mining site, located in the Sabon-Daga area along the Minna-Bida road.

In a statement sent to DAILY POST in Minna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, asserted that there were no casualties or injuries to civilians during the incident.

Muti explained that on October 16, 2025, at around 9:22 am, the Command’s personnel were confronted by hoodlums while attempting to detain suspects involved in illegal mining activities.

The NSCDC dismissed as false news reports suggesting that some illegal miners were killed by its officers at the Kateregi mining site.

Our correspondent reported that three weeks prior, three illegal miners had lost their lives at the mining site, prompting the Command to deploy its personnel to combat illegal mining and prevent further fatalities.

Nonetheless, NSCDC spokesperson Rabiu Muti reiterated that on October 16, 2025, at approximately 9:22 am, the Command’s personnel faced an attack by hoodlums while trying to arrest suspects engaged in illegal mining activities.

He emphasized, “We wish to clarify this troubling rumor regarding our Mining Marshals in the Sabon Daga area of Bosso Local Government. There was no loss of life or injury to civilians during this incident; our personnel acted professionally, and the reported damage was confined to our vehicles.”

“Despite the attack, our personnel demonstrated restraint and professionalism, withdrawing from the area without escalating the situation,” Muti stated.

The NSCDC spokesman then urged the public to disregard the misleading information circulating on social media. He also expressed gratitude for the support and understanding of the general public regarding this matter, assuring that further updates will be shared as necessary.
