Chairman, Interim Management Committee (IMC), Gbenga Elegbeleye has assured that the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional League season will kick-off next month.
The IMC and representatives of the 20 clubs met in Abuja on Monday to deliberate on the kick-off date and modalities for the smooth running of the league.
Elegbeleye stated that the agreed date will be made known to the public after approval from the Nigeria Football Federation.
“I want to assure Nigerians that the 2022/23 NPFL will start this year. We (IMC and representatives of 20 NPFL Clubs) have agreed on the date but we can’t tell the public without approval by the NFF,” Elegbeleye told reporters after the meeting.
“Once the issue of Club Licensing is sorted out and all the participating clubs presented standard pitches good enough to be shown on television, the league will kick off. ”
Rivers United won the title last season, the first time in the history of the club.
