However, the game was abandoned by the referee after an incident in the tunnel.

Hosts Littlehampton were 2-1 down to United going into the break.

United had taken the lead after 12 minutes before the hosts levelled eight minutes later, but the visitors then found their way back in front with a 34th-minute goal.

But before play could resume, a statement was released on social media indicating the second half would not be played out.

A statement from Littlehampton said: “Today’s game against Hayes & Yeading was abandoned by the referee at half-time following an incident between both sets of players in the tunnel.

“We are in discussion with the league and will update in due course.”

A post from United on social media simply said: “Match abandoned at half time.”

No further public update has been provided by the clubs or league.

SunSport have approached the Isthmian League for comment.

Town are in the relegation zone in the division with just one gameweek left to play.

Failure to beat United will result in their relegation, with a draw mathematically keeping them up but with a huge goal difference swing needed to catch Hendon in 18th place.

Meanwhile, United are 10th in the table in the table.
