The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on the Nigerian government to urgently equip security agencies with modern gadgets and technology to effectively tackle the rising insecurity across the country.
He insisted that no society can develop in the absence of peace.
The monarch made the appeal on Thursday when the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Sokoto.
“As a retired military officer, I feel it deep down in my heart, the security situation in our country is critical,”;; the Sultan stated.
“No society can develop in an atmosphere of insecurity. No matter how wealthy people are, they cannot enjoy their riches if there is no adequate peace in their environment.”;;
He emphasized the need for the government to prioritize national security by empowering security outfits with advanced tools and adequate resources.
“We must use modern technology, intelligence, and proper planning to stay ahead of criminal elements threatening our nation,”;; he added.
The Sultan also urged all security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in discharging their duties.
“Security outfits must ensure our nation is safe and secure at all times,”;; he said.
In his remarks, Dr. Ahmed Audi said his visit to Sokoto was part of a nationwide tour to interact with NSCDC personnel, assess challenges on the ground, and strengthen operational efficiency.
“It is our tradition to visit the palace and seek parental blessings from His Eminence the Sultan before proceeding with our duties,”;; Dr. Audi noted.
The NSCDC boss thanked the Sultan for his consistent support and called for continued collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies to promote peace and resolve conflicts across Nigeria.
