The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the August 15 Osun State election, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, has promised to reinstate about 2,000 teachers and health workers disengaged from the state workforce if elected governor.
Oyebamiji made the pledge in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos after a meeting with more than 1,500 teachers and 515 health workers who were reportedly disengaged by the Osun State Government in 2022.
He described the dismissal of the workers as unfair and regrettable, noting that many of them had served the state faithfully before losing their jobs without salary payments, arrears or any form of job security.
According to him, no government that is genuinely committed to development should neglect trained professionals willing to contribute to public service.
Oyebamiji further stated that the disengagement of workers negatively impacts confidence in the civil service and weakens morale within the education and healthcare sectors.
He assured the affected workers that, if elected, his administration would prioritise their reinstatement and also address issues relating to unpaid salary arrears and outstanding promotion benefits.
