The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Oji River in Enugu State, Rt Rev Ikechukwu Egbuonu, has brought attention to the concerns raised by Nnamdi Kanu during his visit to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at the Sokoto Correctional Facility.

In an interview with AIT, Bishop Egbuonu mentioned that the IPOB leader expressed worries regarding his heart condition.

He further noted that Kanu voiced concerns about his ability to pursue his appeal, considering the significant distance from Abuja to Sokoto.

Despite these issues, he remarked that the Abia-born activist appeared very composed while in prison.

According to the Bishop, Kanu indicated that he needs to be in Abuja to reconcile his records with the High Court before proceeding with his appeal, and he is working within a 90-day timeframe to address this case.

β€œHe was quite unhappy that no arrangements had been made to transport him to Abuja for this purpose and then return him afterward,” he stated.

β€œI also heard him requesting to speak with his lawyer regarding a matter that the lawyer had raised, relating to some misunderstandings about certain documents he had submitted for filing.”

β€œHe feels distressed about not being able to communicate with his lawyers.”

When reminded that it seems Kanu dismissed his lawyers, the Bishop clarified, β€œNo, he did not dismiss his lawyers.”

β€œHe chose to represent himself in this case while employing the lawyers as consultants to provide him with guidance.”

β€œThey were still actively working on his case even during my visit; one of the lawyers accompanied me as I arrived.”
