The Federal Government, via the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), has issued a warning to disconnect Imo State from the national grid due to the kidnapping of its workers at gunpoint within the state.
NISO made this announcement in a statement on Saturday, urging the immediate release of the abducted personnel.
The Federal Government agency accused armed operatives allegedly acting on behalf of the Imo government of being responsible for the invasion.
It clarified that these operatives invaded and vandalized the control rooms at the Egbu 132/33kV Transmission Substation after attempting to pressure system operators into permitting an unauthorized and illegal outage in the area.
NISO pledged to cut off electricity supply to the state if the government failed to communicate or take appropriate action by the end of Saturday evening.
“The ongoing lack of communication regarding the status of our personnel is a significant concern for NISO management,” the statement indicated.
“If no information is received,” NISO warned that it will disconnect all transmission substations within Owerri from the national grid as a precautionary measure.
As of the time of this report, the Imo State Government has neither confirmed nor denied the incident.
