The Federal Government has revealed reasons behind the delays on Section 2 of the Kano–Katsina dual carriageway.

This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement (North-West), Abdullahi Tanko-Yakasai on Friday during an inspection of the project at Gidan-Mutum Daya in Katsina State.

According toTanko-Yakasai this was as a result of the unresolved compensation claims involving farmlands and residential properties along the route.

Tanko-Yakasai said the 157-kilometre road project, awarded under the previous administration, has made noticeable progress despite the compensation setbacks.

“We inspected the project alongside members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and we are satisfied with the quality of work being delivered by the contractor,” he said.

According to him, the project is currently about 27 per cent completed, with compensation remaining the most significant obstacle.

“I believe this issue will be resolved soon, as the importance of this road cannot be overemphasised,” he added.

Tanko-Yakasai noted that the highway would significantly enhance economic activities in the region, stressing the close commercial ties between Kano, a major trade hub, and Katsina.

He further explained that recent policy changes have transferred responsibility for compensation payments to state governments, a shift that has complicated projects initiated under earlier federal arrangements.

“With this new arrangement, we are confident that the Minister of Works will engage the Katsina State governor to address and resolve the issue,” he assured.

Also speaking, the Federal Controller of Works, Muhammed Idris, said progress on the project had been slow in the past but improved funding under the current administration had boosted construction activities.

He expressed confidence that compensation matters would soon be settled, allowing for the timely completion and use of the road.
