The Nigerian government, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has opened up on reports that it organized special prayers over the country’s food crisis.
The government clarified that the special prayers was not an official policy to address food insecurity in the country.
The ministry made this known in a statement released on X on Saturday.
It explained that the prayer session is aimed at promoting the well-being of the staff.
According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu’s government is determined to ensure Nigerians have access to quality and affordable food.
“The prayer session is an initiative of the Human Resources Department aimed at promoting the well-being of the staff, just as the already established monthly aerobic exercises and the gymnasium are intended for physical fitness. Routine medical checkups for staff are conducted for their health.
“The Ministry affirms that the ministers and the management team are working to ensure food and nutrition security for the country in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“This includes the delivery of more than one thousand tractors to support farmers and the signing of the commercialisation phase under the supervision of President Tinubu.
“Additionally, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, more than two million bags of fertiliser have been distributed to farmers to reduce production costs.
“These efforts aim to strengthen cooperative societies and enhance their role in economic development,”; the ministry wrote on its X account.
This comes as Nigerians grapple with inflation, which stood at as of April 2025.
With the adverse impact of floods in parts of Nigeria such as Mokwa in Niger State, the United Nations had projected that millions are expected to fall into acute hunger in the coming months.
