The Nigerian Army has raised the alarm over an attempted compromise of its official X account.
The Army disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on August 29, 2026, and is being treated as a cybersecurity breach.
Anele said the Army had activated immediate technical and protective measures to secure the account, prevent further unauthorised access and protect the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.
She said efforts were underway to fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control.
The Army advised the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content published through the affected account pending the resolution of the incident.
It said such content should not be regarded as representing the official position of the Nigerian Army.
The Army also urged the public and the media to verify information through its other official communication platforms while efforts to secure the X account continued.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to information integrity, operational security and responsible strategic communication, adding that further updates would be provided as necessary.
