Former Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Lucky Irabor (rtd) has called on the Federal Government to initiate a comprehensive offensive against the bandits and insurgents perpetrating violence throughout Nigeria.
General Irabor made this appeal on Monday during an interview on ‘Politics Today,’ a program aired on Channels Television.
He emphasized that there are no legal documents suggesting that Nigeria is currently at war.
“There are no legal instruments indicating that Nigeria is at war. There’s none; we’re only assuming that we are at war,” he stated.
“Certainly, there is a need to officially declare war to consolidate the elements of state power directly towards the war effort,” he added.
According to him, declaring war would allow resources to be specifically allocated to confront the offenders.
“This would make a significant difference because resources would be appropriately directed, and accountability frameworks could be established to ensure we can monitor the effectiveness of our expenditures,” he mentioned.
“Additionally, let me clarify that this is not solely about military operations. We are discussing the comprehensive deployment of state power beyond just military strength that will assist us,” he concluded.
