The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has denounced the recent assaults on communities in the Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, which resulted in the deaths of at least 42 individuals and the abduction of several others, including women and children.

Referring to the attacks as “gruesome, senseless, barbaric, and completely unacceptable,” Yilwatda stated that they constitute a direct threat to Nigeria’s peace and unity.

In a statement issued on Monday, he expressed alarm over the violence occurring in areas such as Kasuwan Daji and Kaima, highlighting reports of killings, the burning of markets and homes, the destruction of places of worship, and the abduction of students from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri.

Yilwatda extended his condolences to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Niger State Government, and the families of the victims.

He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift response, noting that the President had instructed the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the DSS to apprehend the criminals and rescue the abducted individuals.

According to intelligence reports, the assailants are believed to be terrorists evading military pressure from Sokoto and Zamfara States. Yilwatda stressed that Nigeria’s security agencies remain vigilant and proactive.

He urged citizens to provide reliable information to security forces and called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to collaborate with authorities to restore peace.

“The forces of terror will not overcome our collective determination. Nigeria will prevail,” he declared.
