A £300,000 potential superstar horse trained by Nicky Henderson and owned by Rich Ricci is being backed for Cheltenham – ahead of his big yard debut.

The hugely exciting Fire Warning has been clipped into as short as 16-1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

As big as 33-1 a few days prior, the move came before Fire Warning was declared to run for the first time under the Seven Barrows banner at Newbury on Wednesday.

Mega owner Ricci, who last won the Supreme with Douvan in 2015, shelled out the whopping six-figure sum for former French runner Fire Warning at the Arqana Arc sale in October.

The five-year-old gelding used to be trained by Hugo Merienne.

Ricci has a famed relationship with Willie Mullins and it is interesting that Merienne used to be the Closutton boss’ assistant.

Fire Warning has raced three times in his career and won over an extended two miles on the Flat in August.

On his first run over hurdles he finished second at Auteuil over 2m2f in the Prix Marittimo last October, keeping on well to press odds-on winner Illusion Machine all the way to the line.

He hasn’t boosted the form massively since but did finish fourth in a Grade 1.

James Bowen gets the ride on Fire Warning in the Class 3 hurdle contest over 2m69y worth around £8,000 to the winner.

Fire Warning could prove the second massive chance for Hendo in the Supreme.

Old Park Star, owned by Gordon and Su Hall, is current 6-1 second-fav after he demolished rivals en route to victory at Cheltenham last month.

Wednesday could prove a very informative day for iconic handler Henderson.

He has also declared the exciting Feel Gut – who was second to Mullins’ new recruit Macho Man – at Newbury.

Both Macho Man and Feel Gut are owned by Joe and Marie Donnelly and could be anything.

They filled the one-two positions respectively in the Prix Pride Of Kildare at Auteuil last October.
