A NEWLYWED man has died after being electrocuted while trying to save a crash victim just one day after returning from his honeymoon.

Furkan Alan, 27, whose family said he could “never ignore someone in need”, was killed when he stepped on a broken high-voltage line in Turkey.

The tragic accident unfolded when a driver, named as 29-year-old Onur Uslu, smashed into an electricity pole after losing control of his vehicle.

The crash allegedly made the pole and a high-voltage power line collapse and fall onto the road in Mudanya, Bursa.

Furkan, who was passing through the area in his own vehicle, stopped after witnessing the crash and attempted to assist the injured driver.

The married man parked his car, approached the wounded man and contacted emergency services while trying to provide help at the scene.

As he moved closer, Furkan reportedly stepped on a fallen electrical cable while he was on the phone.

He was immediately electrocuted.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to assist both Furkan and the driver who crashed.

But medics confirmed that Furkan had died at the scene.

His body was taken to a morgue at Mudanya State Hospital for post-mortem examination following investigations by and prosecutors.

The injured driver was rushed to hospital for treatment after receiving initial medical assistance at the scene.

Furkan had returned to Bursa from his honeymoon only one day earlier, having married his wife the previous week.

Reports also said that he was on his way to pick up his brother from work when the crash occurred.

Furkan’s family described him as a “hero who could not ignore someone in need”.

They added that his selfless nature meant he stopped to help when others might have driven on.

His funeral was held in Bursa following the tragic ordeal.
