It’s believed that Newcastle were previously rebuffed for the player.

But according to Tutto Atalanta, the club would now consider offloading the player to generate more funds this summer.

It claims the Bergamo outfit would sanction an exit if they received a bid of around £39million.

Scalvini is one of the players earmarked by sporting director Cristiano Guintoli that the club could cash in on.

Atlanta “have to carry out another major sale this summer”, it goes on to say, after watching .

United had agreed a deal to sign the player in early June but the club decided not to proceed after an issue emerged in his medical.

The outlet says the club were initially planning to extend Scalvini’s contract past 2028.

That will leave Scalvini’s future uncertain as Sarri also wants to be reunited with ex-Lazio defender Alessio Romangnoli.

And Newcastle are now ready to pounce on the situation as looks to add to his defensive options.

He already has Fabian Schar, England star , and Malick Thaw competing for places.

However, Schar and Burn are both 34 and Howe will be looking towards the future with his next signings.

Newcastle have been busy in the transfer market so far after wrapping up four signings.

Winger Bazoumana Toure has been their biggest arrival so far in a £42m deal from , while midfielder Aladji Bamba has joined from Monaco for around £30m.

The Magpies have also snapped up keeper Ewen Jaouen for £18.5m and Sean Steur from Ajax for almost £20m.

Newcastle had to make additions after losing some major players in Anthony Gordon, who joined in a £70m deal.

And made the switch to Tottenham for a massive sale of £100m.

Howe is expecting more departures too after Arsenal continue negotiations over captain and talisman Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal are said to be after previously rejecting a bid of £55m.
